Do notice that their are two main processes for printing. TT-Thermal transfer is a process that burns the ribbon(Required) onto the label. DT-Direct Thermal is a process which heats the label to form a print. Usually DT is for short term use like shipping, and quick moving products. TT is usually used on more long term and where durability is needed. Most TT-Thermal Transfer printers will print DT-Direct Thermal labels, but direct thermal printers are usually printers that only do DT-Direct Thermal.
Many decisions have to be made to purchase a printer that is correct for your needs. The main decision with barcode printers is usually connectivity. Do you want Ethernet, USB, or serial? The next questions normally relate to peed, width of print media, what media, and resolution. The printhead has to be purchased to match the resolution in the printer. Normal resolutions are 200 DP1, 300 DPI, and 600 DPI, with 200 DPI fitting most needs.
